Swedish band NESTOR, specialising in that "80s-movie-rock" sound (think Top Gun, Over The Top, etc.), making us feel things again.... I so love this guy's voice!!

The proof is in the pudding! At least that's what I call it. A thing I've noticed more and more (and I'm sure I'm not the only one), is how "visuals" often enhance a song. That's of course nothing new, but I often find myself - after being "wowed" by e.g. a stunning music video, live performance, etc. - having a "meh" experience afterwards when listening again to just the audio of the song.

Speaking of live performances, one place this is sometimes more noticeable, is with the annual Eurovision contest. A good example is the recent winner of the Swedish part of the competition - Marcus & Martinus' "Unforgettable". Mind-blowing ( !) stage performance (which could double as the music video, that's how amazing it is!). But here's the problem: though I don't think it's a bad song, when listening to just the audio, that frustrating "meh" experience comes over me ~ it's certainly "less than the sum of its parts".

Not slamming the artist or the competition, just using it as an example. And if anything it's props to the visual director(s)! Same can be said of many songs sans their stellar music videos.

That's the music world and business. For me though, like I said - "the proof's in the pudding!" The real test is about the music and the song itself. If that can impress (and keep impressing), without any visual accompaniment, then that's what makes a great song for me! (And if it has nice visuals, well, that's just a bonus!)
