GIRLS ALOUD Tribute: What makes them special?
Or put another way: what makes them not just another, hot, pretty-faced girlband? And what sets them apart from, say - Sugababes, Pussycat Dolls, All Saints, etc.?

Well, I thought about it, and I think it's down to - except for their "naive" fresh-faced image (creating a combination of both "naughty" and "innocent") - musically speaking their songs seem "straightforward pop", but in actual fact there's a lot more to it. This explains why sometimes one would hear songs from them, and think one doesn't "like" them at first; only to "get" them later when exposed to their songs over a longer period of time, and then find them irresistible!

I think it's because their songs often defy "traditional" structure... i.e. not just the usual "verse, bridge, chorus", but they create their own rules, and as such their own unique style (hits like 'Biology', 'Love Machine' and 'The Show' were the first examples of this). In other words, I - for one - think they contribute something unique (and certainly enjoyable!) to the world of music...

Ok, enough blabbering... to get a VERY NICE overview of Girls Aloud's contribution so far (at least up to 2007 - when this was made), do check out this Megamix... Me likes!!

Isn't this single cover by THE SATURDAYS just BEAUTIFUL?! Wow - I LOVE this!

Having scored their third UK Top Ten hit with their latest single, I'm pleased that's it's looking more and more like The Saturdays might be with us for a longer haul than just one album... I've also recently discovered that their album 'Chasing Lights' is actually quite gorgeous.

Speaking of nice pictures, I also LOVE this one of GIRLS ALOUD I borrowed from a forum friend... this would make such a fantastic album cover!

Ok... let's talk GIRL BANDS!

Focusing on our current favourite 3, some of you'll remember our recent "friendly competition" between their - almost-simultaneously-released - latest material... so here's a recap and the succession:

Albums:
1. Out Of Control - Girls Aloud (BRILLIANT!)
2. Chasing Lights - The Saturdays (QUITE GOOD!)
3. Catfights & Spotlights - Sugababes (ok)

1st (in The Sats' case - 2nd) single:
1. Up - The Saturdays
2. The Promise - Girls Aloud
3. Girls - Sugababes

2nd (in The Sats' case - 3rd) single:
1. The Loving Kind - Girls Aloud
2. Issues - The Saturdays
3. No Can Do - Sugababes

Ok, now SUGABABES' luck seems to have run out this time round... but they certainly don't disappoint with their latest video... this should have been the video for Lady GaGa's 'BOYS BOYS BOYS'!

QUESTION: What undeniable music highlight of the 90's occurred in 1996, spent 10 weeks @ #1 on Blue-Box, and ended up the #1 song of the year?

All will be revealed tomorrow... so be sure to check out our 'Classic Hit Of The Week' on the Charts page!

The Lady's newest single just released on the Blue Islands is the fan-favourite 'Boys Boys Boys'... and it's currently flying out the shops at a higher rate than anything else...!

THE WORLD GOES GAGA FOR GAGA! I'm DELIGHTED that LADY GAGA's debut single 'Just Dance' is scoring a chart-double this week on both sides of the Atlantic... hitting #1 in the US and the UK in the same week! And it's another point for pop music (as one of the best examples of modern pop becomes a global smash!)
This proves the world HAS great taste (or that at least sometimes they have the same taste as me - lol!)

Somebody put it well when they said: "the GAGAMINATION is now complete!"

Hehe... this lady's just giving me more and more reason to love her...

In Yahoo! Music News is an article titled 'Lady GaGa's let go-go of Catholic guilt"...
Apparently the sexy singer bid farewell to her Catholic school upbringing - by becoming a fire-starting stripper.
The 22-year-old made it clear she was sick of religious constraint - by setting fire to thongs on-stage.

She said, "Nuns ran my school, so I was suppressing this part of myself for a long time. It wasn't until later that I realised my true passion was music, art and performance. I used to go-go dance, and set G-strings on fire - stuff like that."

And apparently her dad didn't like it. Well, not surprisingly I guess, as he was probably the one to send her to Catholic school to begin with.
