I'm so excited about the upcoming new NICKELBACK album... 'Dark Horse', to be released on November 17! Certainly one of the most famous rock bands at the moment, I thought their last album 'All The Right Reasons' was really amazing... and what makes the new one even more special, is that it's been produced by the one-and-only MUTT LANGE! (Shania, Def Leppard, AC/DC, Bryan Adams).
Also LOVE the first new single - 'Gotta Be Somebody'... I didn't expect the new album so soon... really looking forward to it!

(and they DO look good in dem jeans, don't they?)

You know I love the SUGABABES, right? But I'm still not sure what to make of their brand new single 'Girls'...
First I hated it, then with seeing the video - I thought at least the first half was actually quite GOOD... (like GIRLS ALOUD with their newest single also coming out soon, they're going for the retro-type style DUFFY-and-co made trendy again)... but then I think it gets too monotonous the second half...? Not sure yet... OPINIONS?

(PS - I LOVE the title of their forthcoming album: 'Catfights and Spotlights'! )

And speaking of 'catfights'... he he... How about having one of our own? Here is the new GIRLS ALOUD single 'The Promise' (no video yet, just a rough audio)... similar '60's style' as I mentioned, though I dare say catchier and less repetitive than the SUGABABES one... What do you think - which one is better?

Admittedly I LOVE almost every song The Sugababes had recorded up to now, bar this new single. 'Girls' is simply hideous, and could not even be saved by the video (I mean, I still have to hear the song while trying to enjoy the visuals). That said, the fabulous "Smart & Dove Remix" of 'Girls' falls very pleasant on the ear, and kinda makes up for the vileness of the original.

Girls Aloud had a couple of good songs in the past, and others that I find beyond forgettable. Sadly, I would classify "The Promise" under the latter. Yes, it's definitely easier to appreciate than "Girls", but it is also not ALL THAT!

Chart-wise, I predict "Girls" to reach at least Top 3 the first week, due to the groups fan-base and popularity, but I also see it drop faster than Sir Cliff in the weeks to follow. I guess "The Promise" would probably reach Top 3 as well, and have a week or two longer shelf-life.

But, to get to the point (and, I hope future chart stats can prove me correct on this one!). While this "cat (dog)-fight" was being fought, the 'bone' was grabbed by THESE other bitches!

THE SATURDAYS! Yes, I also absolutely adore this new song of theirs! I also prefer this one to those by the other 2 established girl bands (you actually just beat me to posting this video!)

Anyway, by now I can confirm that I like both the Sugababes and Girls Aloud songs... and for me the final score is:
1. The Saturdays - Up
2. Girls Aloud - The Promise
3. Sugababes - Girls

Finally it makes sense. Something I was completely unaware of was that "Girls" is a cover version (the original was a 70s hit by Ernie K. Doe), and that it is recently became all the rage in the UK due to the original being used in the popular Boots TV-commercial.

I also like all the 3 girl bands. I thought each band has their own special personality and style. As for their new singles, here's my ranking for them:

1. The Saturdays - Up
2. Sugababes - Girls
3. Girls Aloud - The Promise

Thanks for the 'votes' people. Well, according to this then (and if I read Fonda's opinion correctly), the result so far is this: The Saturdays easily in first place, and then Sugababes and Girls Aloud jointly in second place...
Maybe one disadvantage Girls Aloud has had, is that they only had a 'bad audio' version displayed here, and not a proper video version. Well, the video for 'The Promise' has since been released... so here it is!

In a couple of weeks one of the world's greatest rock/pop bands are celebrating 40 years in the music industry (a la Sir Cliff's 50 years last week), and to celebrate, their label is releasing a remix of one of their greatest No. 1's as a single next month (the song was originally a MASSIVE hit in 1980!).

But, unlike Cliff Richard's rather dull effort, this band has decided to do a collaboration with (who is currently) the world's greatest and hottest dance band!

There is absolutely no doubt that this is going be one of THE biggest songs of 2008 in the UK and Germany (and of course in Waldia!).

Radio will receive CD-promos next week, and the single will be released end-October. BUT, the videos has just been released by the label on YouTube as a "taster", and it's AWESOME!

Check this out:

For the record... the only STATUS QUO song that ever charted on Blue-Box (mostly because I guess their "hey-day" was before B.B. really started), was 'In The Army Now'... incidentally one of my all time favourite songs... it charted at #6 in 1986.

I've always LOVED Status Quo! Here's the full Ultra-Pop discogs:

Whatever You Want (1980) No. 1 (4 weeks)
What You're Proposing (1980) No. 1 (8 weeks)
Something 'Bout You Baby I Like (1981) No. 11
The Wanderer (1984) No. 1 (2 weeks)
In The Army Now (1986) No. 17
Burning Bridges (1989) No. 1 (10 weeks)
The Anniversary Waltz Part 1 (1990) No. 1 (2 weeks)
The Anniversary Waltz Part 2 (1991) No. 15
When You Walk In The Room (1995) No. 4

And, for all the 80s-kids around (there seem to be quite a few here) THIS is how we rocked in the 70s!

Very nice! I like it a lot. Very nice guitar playing... Actually, except for 'In The Army Now', the only STATUS QUO songs I think I know, are 'Whatever You Want', 'The Wanderer' and 'Rocking All Over The World' (the latter which I was surprised not to see on your list).

"Rocking All Over The World" was 'just' before my time, and was released as a single in 1977 (never in SA, mind). It did, however, resurface as a party-anthem in the late 80s/early 90s.

To celebrate: I'm wearing my special pink underwear today... And with this I'm also encouraging all of YOU to wear yours today... c'mon - you know you want to!

Undoubtedly their best song since 'In The Shadows'... Pop/Rock doesn't get much better than THE RASMUS's new single 'Livin' In A World Without You'... like Roxette meets Savage Garden ('I Want You') - raking up airplay in the Blue Islands faster than you could say... 'So What'? So catchy and dynamic... it's pop gems like this I live for!
