Something I've noticed from time to time: It's quite frustrating listening to a song when the verse is catchier than the chorus...
You know what I mean, right? Sometimes when you start listening to a song, the verse comes in and you think: "Wow, sounds promising!", only to fall a bit flat with the chorus, and you end up with a feeling that the song could-have/should-have been more...
There are of course countless examples through the years, but two recent cases that come to mind: Dua Lipa's 'Dance The Night', and Kaarija & Erika's new 'Ruoska'.... (You get all excited during the build-up with the verses, then they just drop you flat on your face once the chorus "kicks" in...
)
Oh, and as a songwriter myself, I KNOW it's easier said than done.... You have a nice verse, but the struggle can be real to come up with a chorus that really takes it to that higher level.... Like I said, frustrating. But when you do hit it, it's SO worth it!!
