Aah - great and exciting news...!
But before I get to that, an appetizer: this is a recent rugby world cup song by South Africa's Mango Groove lead singer Claire Johnston, with Jeff Maluleke... even though I'm not a rugby fan, just couldn't help dancing to this...!

(Also brought a tear to my eye as I think of what a crime-infested country it's turned into... this type of unifying, uplifting music emphasizes the country's positive side, and is what it needs... )

Ok - now the news... MANGO GROOVE has a wonderful new single - 'Southern Sky' (with a beautiful video one can see on their site - www.mangogroove.co.za) from their latest compilation 'Moments Away - Love Songs & Lullabies: 1990-2006' (they even have a further TWO new videos one can have a look at there).

The band has been on a kind of hiatus since the late 90's, focussing on solo and other projects (occasionally performing and recording the odd song), but members of the band finally feel it's time to get things in full swing again (no pun intended!)

Having been a HUGE success on Blue-Box in the 80's/90's of course, this is great news indeed!

So they're planning on a major national tour in South Africa for 2007 (their first in several years), the release of a new Live-DVD, plus the writing and pre-production of an all-new Mango Groove album to be released early 2008!

But wasn't it obvious all along? Not sure I understand how it works ....Do they have to make a public announcement to make it official ? Sorry - but I don't understand how this works?

You don't understand how WHAT works? I guess you WOULDN'T understand it if you're straight... 'cause you're unconditionally accepted. The only thing that's "official" to this world is that a person's "automatically straight", unless they TAKE COURAGE and declare otherwise...

Sorry 'pet shop boy', but the last post led me to discover this on youtube: quite a few hillarious scenes in "The Worst Movies Ever"...

Sorry Rohan - but I think there's a new cheese on the market called " Spider Cheese" and it seems the world is in love with it......

Spider-Man 3 has been giving the summer blockbuster run a big go for its cash races. Still early on in the Summer run we now have some incredible numbers thrown out for a movie getting TONS of mixed reviews.

Yahoo News quotes:

The superhero's latest adventure, "Spider-Man 3," smashed box-office records with $148 million in its first three days, according to studio estimates Sunday.

That put it ahead of the previous record debut of $135.6 million set last summer by "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest."

With $59.3 million on opening day Friday, Sony's "Spider-Man 3" broke the single-day box-office record, also held by "Dead Man's Chest" with $55.8 million in its first day.

Since it began rolling out overseas on Tuesday, "Spider-Man 3" has taken in $227 million in foreign markets, bringing the film's worldwide total to $375 million. In just days, the movie has grossed $117 million more than its whopping $258 million production budget.

Well - how does it feel to be part of " the minority report " ?

Case Closed

Well this all just proves one thing then, doesn't it? We're all SHEEP! Just following whatever they make us believe is 'good', suckers just falling for it!
Really, a movie doing well DOESN'T mean it's a good movie... in this case at least it's down to great marketing - they must have spent SO MUCH on that!
Taste differs - I'll give you that much. If some people like the movie, well great for them.
Tell you the truth, even if I knew what I know now, I would still have gone to see the movie. Because a) I'm a Spider-Man fan, b) I'm a comic and comic-movies fan, and c) I'd want to see it just for the special effects and action scenes... (and so I'm sorry to admit I'm also a 'sheep' in this case! )
But overall as a movie it still SUCKS!

Just wanted to add that - YES! , the marketing probably costs a few Million Dollars, and rightly so , because if you wanna sell something today - you need Brilliant Marketing , but this is not the only reason why millions of people all over the world paid for their admission ticket . No I think the key factor is " Word of Mouth " . People go to see it because they were intrigued and facinated by the trailor , and then beCAUSE they were overwhelmed by an outstanding Movie - they tell everyone that they come in contact with , that it was outstanding!and definately worth watching. The three reasons you gave for watching it -alone, is already enough to have enjoyed it.

But you have my symphathy as I had the same dilemma with Casino Royale. But I'm happy that it was a big success - even though I thought it was probably the worst Bond Movie Ever (Including George Lazenby's attempt to be Bond).

Long Live Spidy & 007 !

Whatever... Just in my opinion says a lot about us as society if we can "enjoy" that "tripe!" (I'm talking about SM3 of course).

For the record - those were my reasons for watching it, but I certainly didn't enjoy it...

Ouch! Raging OUCH!

Thankfully Rohan is NOT alone on this one. In fact, I for one, ALWAYS prefer to make up a portion of our world's 'minority' report - see Ro's great posts above re. sheep (and my thread on our "atrocious modern society beliefs" and "organized religion" on this message board a year or so ago.

Here's a link of short montage I made (only a FEW of the many) of Spidey 3 fluffs. All thanks to Jo'burg's very own friendly neighborhood Nigerian DVD-hawker at the Sandton City intersection. (Oh, and that hilariously hideous scene with the US-flag isn't in there (!) - I just forgot, and it should've been there!)

I'm not going to go into detail on Spiderman 3, but honestly, it SUCKED. Even more than Pirates 3!

"'Nuff said" - PMSL!

Wow - it's amazing to what lenghts some people ( the Minority) will go ....reminds me a bit of the "Dooms day Prophets" But hey , there's always Spiderman 4 to look forward to.

By the way - The walking scene was not supposed to look "cool". It was supposed to look ridiculous, like a nerd trying to be cool, but not knowing how to. And for that I think the acting deserves a 10 out of 10.

Come on peeps - try and give it a rest....it's action adventure - not a true life drama... If I wanna cry - I'll watch Dead poets society again .....

More great news.... OMD (Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark)... the "missing-from-action" band of the 80's Electronic "Big Four" (the others being Pet Shop Boys, Erasure and Depeche Mode), has also re-united, is touring again, and plans to release a brand new album in 2007!
