Yeah , this is going to be a BIG one!

The latest issue of 'Q', a leading UK music magazine, includes one of the first reviews of the new PSB album.
"...Fundamental is much like 1987's Actually or 1990's Behaviour (i.e. it sits right alongside the duo's very best work)."
"Britain's great pop group? Absolutely."
The June issue of 'Q' is on sale now.

get ready boys and girls! the Boys are back!!!

Finally the world gets blessed with some true Pet Shop Boys majic! It's with great pride that I say : The Pet Shop Boys entered the official UK charts at no 5 with their new release "fundamental"! and well deserved as well. With 20 years of synthesizer pop/dance expierience to their credit the boys are back on the pop scene, and delivers a truly remarkable album , which proves why they were nominated the most succesful duo ever. With innovative songs such as "phsycological" , "casonava in hell" ,and "Luna park " the boys proves once again that they can create a world the listener can relate `to, but is is the more uptempo songs like "the sodom and gommorah show" , "minimal"" I'm with stupid" and especially "integral" that sets a new standard even for today's pop music scene... It's also worth it to pay a bit extra and get the remix cd "fundamentalism" as this takes the listener on a non stop adrenalin rush, with up beat clubbing like sounds in songs like "fugitive" and "sodom" There's also a 80's feel to the song "in private" featuring Sir Elton John.

Long live the boys.....

Glad to see how well they are doing on the Islands... I predict that " minimal" will also make it to the number 1 spot on the singles charts when it gets released... time will tell....

This morning after I woke up, I clicked on my favourite web link ( " The Blue" ) and got carried away in the "discography" section and " blue gloves " section! Once again I'd like to compliment the mastermind behind the "box " for providing such an updated internet site about the thing we all love most! ........................MUSIC ! I was hoping to read the charts of this week ending , but I suppose good things come to those who wait.....(curious to see if the boys have been de- throned from their no 1 position!!) It is however with regret that I inform the "Blues" that after checking the "official UK ALBUM charts@ for week ending 4/06/06 , that The Pet Shop Boys's "fundamental" album has dropped in it's second week to no 22 ! But I suppose we all expected that! Maybe Mr. R would care to explain to us why this is always happening? Is it predominantly happening with older bands? or does this fenomenen occur regardless of the artist's age status? Don't get me wrong though - I'm chuffed with their achievement to reach no 5 , as I think we all would have thought that they'd only enter the charts "somewhere" in the top 20! After I've purchased their new album, my cd rom's been working overtime to keep up with my burning need for "pet shop boysalism". I just can't seem to get enough of them! My Favourite favourite song on the cd is : ...............................you guessed it!.........................................................." luna park" How on earth does one write a song like that? It takes my breath away each time I hear it!!!!!! I really hope it becomes a single! "casanova in hell" & "indefinite leave to remain" are also "Magicalism" !!!! I do however think that "MINIMAL" might be (in my opinion) the best pop/dance/synthesizer like tune the boys have ever made!!!!!! Will be nice to be hearing this in the Clubs!
"The weakest link " on "fundamentalism" I'd say is "gomorrah" but hey ! still not bad!
Here are my top PET SHOP BOYS ALBUMS throughout the years! :

1. Actually
2. Fundamental
3. Very
4. Introspective
5. Nightlife
6. Disco (1)
7. Please

Here is my "phrase" : - Actually "fundamental" is very introspective about Nightlife disco, so please be make sure you own it!

Hi Pet Shop Boy... Glad you enjoy the site.

I think what you're mentioning regarding 'Fundamental''s chart-performance is not strange at all, in fact it's quite on-par with the performance of 'veteran acts' like them.
I believe their new album is also charting higher than their electro-veteran-competitors Depeche Mode and Erasure did with their latest releases.
'Fundamental' reached #5 in the UK, whereas its two predecessors 'Release' and 'Nightlife' both peaked at #7, and the latter two fared worse in their second week as well.
So - according to PSB standards of late, 'Fundamental' is doing quite well.

(Of course it deserves to stay at #1 for more than 10 weeks instead... but what can you do? )

Well my suspions were half met with "I'm with stupid" being dethroned from it's no 1 position by Gnarls... but it looks like "fundamental" is still hanging in there on the album charts. . . what style of music does Gnarls make ? pop ? - I've heard the name but am not sure what it sounds like...

Gnarls Barkley is being praised by many for being very innovative... (I heard the artist has some connection to Gorillaz as well). I haven't heard any of their(?) other songs yet, so I can't really give an opinion.
Reading reviews on Amazon though, it seems there are as many ppl finding the music hard to digest as there are those praising its brilliance.
The general discription though seems to be that it's very hip-hop oriented, , which is why I'm certainly hesitant to check out more than just the (not-so-hip-hop) single...

Something VERY NICE I found on "youtube"... The Kings Of The Universe - a-ha - performing their new single "Cosy Prisons" on a show called "Let's Dance" on RTL (in Germany I think). Don't they look and sound good? And love the LIGHTS on this one...

Talking of which... I can't stress it enough: "youtube" is such a wonderful website, isn't it? It has to be the best video site out there at the moment, with so many different kinds of things to watch (and so much FUNNY stuff) - can spend hours on there (have to stop myself! )
If you haven't discovered it yet, go to www.youtube.com ...you're in for a treat!

PER GESSLE TO PRODUCE "NORDIC ROX"...

NEW YORK - "Nordic Rox," a new program debuting April 30 on U.S.-based Sirius Satellite Radio, will be produced under the creative guidance of Roxette's Per Gessle, one of the world's most successful songwriters, producers and musicians. As a member of the band Roxette and other performing bands, Gessle has sold 45 million albums worldwide and written dozens of songs that have been blockbusters on European and American radio, including "It Must Have Been Love," which has been aired more than 4 million times on US radio, according to BMI, and is one of Roxette's four #1 US singles.

The program will be hosted and programmed by Radio Stockholm on-air personality Viktor Petrovski, a prominent figure in the Swedish music scene. Also contributing to the program will be the lead singer of The Hives, Howlin' Pelle Almqvist, and highly respected ABBA historian Carl Magnus Palm (on behalf of ABBA's Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus).
The first episode of Nordic Rox will be broadcast on Sirius channel 18 this Sunday, April 30 from 8 pm to 11 pm EST.
"The wave of high-quality bands coming out of Sweden today rivals anything since the big UK music movements," said Scott Greenstein of Sirius. "The launch of Nordic Rox, together with our recent addition of BBC's Radio 1 channel, further establishes Sirius as the leader in discovery of new popular music around the world."
Gessle said, "I'm very honored to be part of presenting Swedish and Scandinavian music outside our borders. The music scene in Sweden is certainly very creative and it will be a pleasure to present the best of it to the listeners of Sirius Satellite Radio. Pump up the volume!"
Nordic Rox will place a spotlight on the quality and depth of Scandinavian artists and music, which have never been exposed in this manner in the US. The show will also be the first place in the US to hear exciting new music emanating from Sweden and Scandinavian countries.
Historically, Sweden is the third largest exporter of music, after the US and Great Britain. It is a creative hotbed for musicians, songwriters, producers and technicians that, since the 1970s, have significantly contributed to the global pop music community. The success of the blockbuster musical Mamma Mia! has proven the enduring popularity of Swedish hitmakers ABBA's music. Scandinavian music producers Max Martin (Britney Spears, Bon Jovi, Kelly Clarkson), Anders Bagge (Madonna, Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Simpson) and Tore Johansson (The Cardigans, Franz Ferdinand), among others, are responsible for many US hits, as well as the worldwide "Crazy Frog" phenomenon.
Nordic Rox will expand upon this success by showcasing established as well as up-and-coming Swedish and Scandinavian artists, ranging from ABBA, Roxette, Ace of Base, and Cardigans to The Hives and other current artists such as The Ark, Whyte Seeds, The Soundtrack of Our Lives, The Sounds, Turbonegro, Sahara Hotnights, The Hellacopters, Madrugada, H.I.M. and many others.

(This article from dailyroxette.com)

I've also read this "Nordic Rox" will be available in other territories like South Africa. Sweden really IS one of the largest exporters of music after the US and UK, isn't it?
